The industrial revolution made our economic status shoot out the roof and gave many people great jobs and there was plenty of money moving through the workforce. But as it continued it started to shape society and make most everything connected to government. We were practically being ruled by industrial and economic laws. The time of the industrial revolution caused a lot of joy for people under the wing of an economic greed. But provoked the spirits and opinions of the people who want things back to when men and women had lives of their own. For the handful of people leading businesses the revolution and modernization was creating lots of resources and with that comes money. In chapter 25 of the textbook on the industrial revolution one of the articles stated “it created jobs for workers. It contributed to the wealth of the nation. It fostered technological progress and invention. It greatly increased the production of goods and raised the standard of living. Perhaps most important, it provided the hope of improvement in people's lives.”. Because the amount of goods being moved around and the money created from that certain people in the chain of authority became very wealthy and important. Workers however did dangerous and energy draining work for very little in return. Most of their work was for the company and not themselves. This cultivated a group of individuals who stood with the idea of recreating the world into a place where men do not work for economic or political machines, or, Anarchism. Anarchism became more solidified towards the end years of the revolution. At this time the machine was truly ruling society and this only mad anarchists opinions on the world stronger. In the article “Anarchism: What It Really Stands For” they say “Anarchism, whose roots, as it were, are a part of nature’s forces, destroys, not healthful tissue, but parasitic growths that feed on life’s essence of society.”. This explains how anarchism is looking to fix the way then our system works and the industrial revolution is reinforcing the system they are trying to cut down.
Project Reflection:
The biggest challenge we faced in the project was editing the podcast and trying to figure out how to use the editing program we chose. We had to spend a lot of time just messing with all the buttons and settings which was very time consuming. Rayanna got pretty comfortable with the program after spending some time messing with it. Then she taught it to me and gage in a better way than the program tells you.
If i did this project over again, I would change the way we format our podcast. Instead of making it all about how AI is going to take jobs and be horrible for the human race, I would want to make it have strong perspectives on both sides. AI is yes bad for factory jobs and lower class workers but it is also going to be quite helpful and it is a pretty important part of our future. It is also coming fast and its not going to stop anytime soon so instead of wining and explaining over and over how its bad, we should focus on what we are gonna do about it.
The greatest insight I have received on labor issues today is that we are at a point where we can choose to make the average person happy with jobs and money or make the rich richer in a way. We can choose to keep people working in our big factories and corporations and save people from poverty and deal with liabilities and dangers and certain skill sets for each job, or replace them with other forms of workers and worry about less and probably make more money. Form a logistical standpoint the second option seems more necessary and effective.
I am most proud of the content we shared in our podcast. But, i did not put as much passion into this project as i could have in fear of having too much work to finish. I would have liked to put lots of perspectives and opinions into the podcast and really rip open the topic. I am also proud that we were able to get everything we needed in on time and we didn't have to struggle with the pressure of late work.
During this project I grew by switching my mindset about work. I have struggles getting work in on time and I procrastinate a lot. In this project i decided i was kind of sick of always having so much pressure with late work and it makes it much less enjoyable. I still felt pressured by the work but it was a pressure to be a better student and create work I want to do and that i'm happy to do.
